I did not build this because I had it figured out.

For years I had two problems I could not fix.

My Opens went nowhere. I would start with a story, or drop straight into the background of the text, and neither one was aimed at anything. I was filling three minutes.

And I could not land a Close. I never really prepared it. I expected it to take care of itself, and it never once did.

I teach courses on both of those in the Academy now. I built them because those two problems beat me for years, and because I finally learned they were fixable.

Here is what I have watched for two decades. Almost every preacher who feels stuck knows something is wrong and has trouble naming it. Most have never had anyone sit down with them and help them see it.

That is what this is. I will ask you questions and tell you the truth about your preaching, kindly and plainly, even when it is not what you hoped I would say.

Seven pieces make up the engagement.

Every preacher comes to this from a different place. One knows his sermons are sound and suspects his delivery is working against him. Another builds a message well and loses the room in the last five minutes. Another is losing his whole week, spending every spare hour and most of Saturday night getting to Sunday. So we start with a diagnosis, and we build the engagement around what it finds.

The Baseline Teardown

Before the first session you send me a recent sermon, video and notes, preached as it actually happened. I take it apart against all four domains and send back a written teardown: what is working, what is not, and why. Most preachers have never had an honest starting line.

The Clear Preaching Assessment

You score your own sense of your preaching across the four domains. Then we set your self-assessment beside the baseline teardown. The gap between how you see your preaching and how it actually functions is usually the most useful conversation of the first month.

Twice-monthly coaching sessions

Two fifty-minute Zoom sessions each month, twelve or twenty-four sessions across the engagement. These are working sessions. We are in your notes, your video, your calendar, and your text for a past Sunday or the one coming.

Ongoing sermon review

You send notes or video between sessions. I send back written feedback against the framework, specific, marked to the moment, and honest. Standard engagements include one full sermon review each month. Delivery-focused engagements include two, because delivery improves when someone is watching you preach regularly.

Clarity Coach between sessions

You get access to Clarity Coach, the sermon evaluation tool built on this framework. Submit a manuscript and get a scored, written evaluation against the rubric in minutes.

The Closing Teardown

At the end, you send a recent sermon and I tear it down again, same four domains, same rubric. You see the movement in writing, side by side with where you started. Growth in preaching is notoriously hard to feel. This is how you see it.

The diagnosis sets the route.

The four domains are how we diagnose. Your engagement is built around wherever the diagnosis points. Most pastors work one or two of these areas over six months, and almost all of them touch the preparation system at some point, because the system is what makes everything else repeatable.

Delivery

Pace, pause, eye contact, gesture, vocal variety, physical presence, and the skills of oral clarity. Whether the person in the pulpit is helping the sermon or getting in front of it. This work is done on video, because delivery cannot be diagnosed from a page.

The Big Idea

Getting from an open Bible to the one sentence your people carry into Monday: Text’s Idea, Abiding Truth, Foundation, Focus, Take-Home Truth. Most sermons that wander are traceable to a step that got skipped here.

The Open and the Close

The first three minutes and the last three, where sermons win or lose a room. How to grab attention and arrive at the truth without previewing your outline. How to make an appeal that presses the need instead of inviting deferral.

Preparation and Time

A written weekly system built for your actual calendar: when you study, when you build, when you write. The goal is preparation you can predict and Saturday nights you can keep.

Expository Method

Letting the text lead. Handling a passage honestly, preaching what is actually there, and building a series that moves through a book without losing your people along the way.

Whatever else surfaces

If the diagnosis points somewhere none of these cover, we build the engagement around what it finds instead.

Decide together where the work will focus and what progress will look like.

Work the focus areas directly, in session, on video, and in your live preaching text.
Build the habits and the preparation rhythm that make the gains repeatable.
Review real sermons every month and correct while it still matters.

Sustain

Establish habits that keep you growing after the engagement ends.
Close the gaps the final teardown reveals.
Leave with a system you can run without me, which is the whole objective.

The closing teardown is the one piece that belongs to a completed engagement. It measures your movement across the full term, so it is reserved for those who finish it. Everything you have received up to the point you stop is yours to keep.

A teaching format for twenty to a hundred pastors, built around the framework and adapted to your group’s context. This is often how a district decides who wants a full engagement.
